My favourite line: They met, she understood him. He didn’t question it, simply accepted her, and that was the most terrifying fact about the tiniest girl in Paris with the most unreadable eyes.

I enjoyed reading this. Hope to see more from you! :)

Thank you! I've got all kinds of Inception fic whirring around in the brain, but I think I need to see a movie the second time at least before I embark on anything too ambitious.

Wow. That was magnificantly intimated.

It reminds me of this comment I read on Ariadne as a character that said she's Cobb's totem. Since you're not supposed to take other people's totems and the spinning top was Mal's and that Ariadne contains so much detail and is sharp and can decipher dream from reality so easily she's a totem within herself. That's what this story reminds me of.

Thanks for writing it.

Thanks for the review! And wow, I really like that idea of Ariadne as Dom's totem. I still have all kinds of questions about the significance of Dom taking Mal's totem- I'm not really sold on the "it's all a dream" interpretation of the film as a whole, but I wanted to try a little experiment in which Ariadne was just sort of a splinter of Dom himself. Since the film establishes the possibility of being fooled by a dream projection (like Robert's "Uncle") and also the possibility of programming one's self a protector, I had to toy around with it a little.

Have you seen the wedding ring theory? I was convinced the ending was a dream until I read the theory on the ring. Now I'm not so sure.

Ariadne would fall very easily into being a protective projection, I think. She has the making of it, being stubborn and forcing him to confront his issues with Mal.

I have! I generally agree with the ring theory (and that different children are used in the final scene signifies something), but a little voice inside my head keeps saying that that's simply not enough to explain away the dream-like qualities of Mombasa and "reality." I also think it's significant that the top is Dom's totem beyond his attachment to Mal- basically, we're being told that Dom has no hold on reality one way or another, since his supposed fail-safe isn't "right" (or isn't his).

Also, we know that people can "age" and change in limbo and dreams (like Saito and Dom and Mal did originally) so I think the psychological catharsis that he went through on the job is real and could remove the ring, regardless as to whether or not he's finally been kicked back into reality. Does that make any sense?

LOVE THIS! You caught so many great nuances of their dynamic;

She had picked it up quickly. Or, rather, she had picked him up quickly. All the in-between of talking, working, of getting-to-know one another was nowhere to be found in his memory. They met, she understood him. He didn’t question it, simply accepted her, and that was the most terrifying fact about the tiniest girl in Paris with the most unreadable eyes.

This is why they're so interesting to me :)

Thanks so much! I know, I love the idea of her really just getting him like that... but there's something sort of eerie about it, isn't there? I think that's what makes their relationship as two people really deep, but it certainly begs the question (for me, at least) as to whether or not she's real. She's almost too much what he needs, you know?

Brillant fic. "She was Dom in reverse- Dom before the fall." Very scary to think about, but I'm sure Dom will make sure she doesn't reach that point. My favorite line though was: "It was interesting, to say the least, that no one recognized her for what she was." Makes one wonder don't it? Hope to see more of your writing for AriDom around. :D

Thank you for the review! I hope so- I love the idea of Dom (if they're both real) protecting her from all the mistakes he's made, but I also think she's a little bit too clever to let him.
