Smokin'

A few weeks back, I noticed a slight smell of smoke in our bedroom.  It was while I was just getting snugged into my corner for the night, & it was the faint smell you might notice on your clothes the morning after a party if you had been hanging out with a couple of people who were smoking.  Very faint, nothing to worry about.  I even considered ( Read more... )

Oh, suckola.

At least it didn't get rotten enough to where your whole bed would have fallen through the floor, perhaps with you on it!

Man, that's gotta suck.

OTOH, a few planks of oak and the floor should be back in business.

Bummer! I'm sorry to hear it. Good that you found the problem before it caused more damage, though.

Awww, that totally blows. Better you discovered it sooner than much later though ;)

Also, it's interesting that it smelled like smoke to you. What you were really smelling was mold/rot, right?

Anyway, until you work stuff out, air mattresses are much better these days than they used to be and easier on our hips than le floor.

I have an air mattress somewhere, but it's pretty small. What I've been doing is dragging chaise lounge mattresses out of the garage - not quite thick enough - and tonight I'll snag the mattresses out of my trailer, see if they gift us the lift we need.

I think/hope what we were smelling was mold! The smell seems to be gone now, so .... But it reminded me of the smell of toasted insulation. I may break the thermostat apart, see if it's burnt internally.

sigh - as problems go, merely an inconvenience.

I hate those kinds of problems, the ones that hide from you while they work away at undermining something you rely on. I've noted the same thing with people, too. Someone might be going along seemingly ok, when suddenly some resentment or other surfaces to blow away whatever they had going for them.
