Ann Coulter (Prof. Williams-friendly)

Mar 23, 2006 20:29

So I just got back from Ann Coulter and I am so disappointed. I understand that Ann Coulter is a crazy bitch, but I at least wanted to hear her state her opinion. That was something that I was denied. People were screaming the whole time, and while some parts were funny it was extremely irritating during the Q&A segment, or better yet, the lack of ( Read more... )

AMEN. PREACH IT MY BROTHER

This is why I am a Republican.
I am SO UTTERLY embarrassed to be a student at this University.
Who was displaying bigotry? The students more than Ann Coulter.

CHRIST I am so pissed.

I re-read your post when I was not-so-utterly-pissed... and guess what, my friend

You know what? This paragraph makes you....

" People complain about the 24,000 dollars that was paid for her, but guess what! It's not your money anymore. You spent your money on Loyola, made it theirs, and then THEY spent their money on Ann Coulter. If I give ten dollars to my friend and then my friends spends it months later to see a band that I don't like can I tell them to give it back? Can I hold that against them? ITS BULLSHIT."

sound like a Republican to me!

This is one instance of outrage from people who refused to acknowledge hate speech. It may have been vulgar, and agreed not done in the best way. Yet, the Republicans and this current administration have a lot more to answer to than those protesters do. The College Republicans knew what they were doing when they invited her here. They were inviting controversy and protest. Given, they may have thought it would cause needed dialogue between republicans and democrats, or even showing that there ARE conservatives in this democratic haven of Chicago. The club still could have chosen a respectable and reasonable Republican to speak at the university. NOT someone who's known for outrageous remarks.

Do you really think there would be such a reaction if a respected, reasonable Republican speaker came to Loyola? I don't think so. She was invited entirely for shock value. In my mind, the College Republicans look worse in this situation for backing such a clear attempt to rile up the students at Loyola.

"Hate speech" is just a phrase used to justify the intimidation and suppression of speech one disagrees with. Your attempt to deflect the reasonable and objective criticism from students and protestors acting foolishly due to their inability to launch a civilized critique of Ann just doesn't wash ( ... )

do i believe that progressives would disrupt another conservative speaker? a conservative can't even enter the city and speak at a hotel conference room without a hundred pre-enraged pantsshitters showing up. progressives are pretty consistantly hostile to pluralistic dialogue ( ... )
