It's doubtless been a long, long time since she ever saw him smile; but he comes to her, kneeling before her politely and saying, "Mother!" He never could get the hang of My Lady, the way Melehan could.

"Thank thee," he says, and obeys, folding his hands between his legs in a very childish posture, and all but bouncing. Having to grow up too fast in almost everything has had the effect of leaving him slightly ridiculous in the things he hadn't.
