FIC: Waiting for the Miracle

Nov 16, 2007 02:51

I promised this fic, to those of you who care, weeks ago.  It's been finished for about as long.  I wrote it before the show's first season came to a close, and I knew -- from what I had read of what was to come -- it wouldn't contradict upcoming canon, as best I could predict, and should fit rather nicely between episodes 1x09 and 1x10.  Looking ( Read more... )

Zellie! I had almost forgotten you'd written this! I'm so excited to see it all posted!

But okay: I'm only caught up to 1x07. I'm going to make watching 1x08 and 1x09 my priority for tonight so I can properly enjoy this. I will come back with a predictably lengthy response then!

OMG! I'm still not even looking at the other comments yet (god, I am so pathetic), but I figured something from you was safe, since last I heard you weren't done watching yet.

So... YES. GO WATCH NOW. 1x08 is SO amazing. GUH. *runs and hides again*

The first Californication fic! Yay! Your font is actually not eye friendly for so many words, so I'll have to step away from your LJ to read it, but wanted to squee before I do.

ten shades and an hour past caring

Nice!

Her voice calms him like waves on the sea, like a good cup of coffee and a better book on a street corner back home
Beautiful imagery. And, I like the illusion to NYC.

Thank you, I'm glad you caught the NYC reference! What with the importance Hank clearly laid on it in "California Son," I felt the need to put that somewhere.

Thanks again so much for reading! I really appreciate it. :)

Heh, I really hesitated to say "the first," because I honestly have no clue. The only thing I can safely say is that it's the first I've seen anywhere (and those on Haven who've been looking seem to agree). Apparently there were a few requests at yuletide this year (which makes me happy), but it's too early for them to have been written yet. FF.net is always a possibility, but... I never venture there. 99% of the content burns my eyes, breaks my brain, or both.

I know, I know, the font! I keep telling myself I need a new layout (and I really, really do), but I'm so lazy about it! Thank goodness for that nifty addition that takes care of it, right?

This is great writing, Eleanore. I think you have a really good handle on these characters, better than the writers for the show, frankly. I remember reading somewhere (your journal probably) that bardsmaid had compared you to Penumbra, who wrote everyone's favorite story, "Parabiosis." Except mine. While I think Penumbra's style often distracts from the story she is telling, I think your writing at its best is both lyrical and clearly focused. And, miracle of miracles, you have made me like Hank Moody again. Bravo!

Thank you so much, Wendy! That's very flattering, especially from you! I was sorry to hear you'd grown rather disenchanted with the characters (or perhaps the show in general), but I'm still really glad you took the time to read this, because your feedback is definitely worth a lot to me either way.

Wow. I don't know what to say to that! I don't think there are much better compliments I could receive on my writing though, and I always trust you to have a critical eye. Thanks again so much for reading and letting me know what you thought. :)

I am your fangirl. I would read your grocery list. Great title, by the way.

It`s always the same. The dumb ones are full of self-confidence, whereas the good ones, the brillant ones are always full of doubts.

I`ve been looking forward this fic since you`ve mentioned it the first time and what can I say? I love it. The characters are reflected perfectly, which shows me that you have an incredible amount of psychological sensibility and -which is probably the most difficult thing- the ability to express these perceptions with such beautiful words.
I`m deeply touched, especially by the ending.

He tucks his heart carefully back inside his jacket pocket; the movement concealed as he pulls out another cigarette and his lighter too, just to fill his empty hands. In the periphery of his tired eyes, he sees the little star of Becca's hand wink back into the darkness of her room. Her fingerprints twinkle at him like some secret constellation, even across all this distance, from the way the moonlight strikes the paneled glass.
Amazing. The relationship between Hank and Becca is one oft the most beautiful ones ( ... )

Heh, that's certainly a nice thought! I would never use the word "brilliant" to describe myself, OR my writing talents though, lol. I appreciate the gesture, though.

The relationship between Hank and Becca is one of the most beautiful ones ever, I can't express how much I love it. She is the real light of his heart, she is what keeps him going. I would love to read more fanfiction focusing on the two of them.
Agreed! I adore their relationship, all the screwups and the good parts. And I'd certainly love to see more fic focusing on them, but that would involve other people actually writing fic for the show, lol! Something tells me we're not going to have the luxury of being picky, which is sad. It happens, though, and bigger fandoms with lots of contributing writers tend to spoil us ( ... )

Wow! Just... wow! Great fic! I especially like the Hank/Becca phone call and the dream about Karen. You have Hank down. Really. And I do see how your writing's like Penumbra's. :D

I love how you put in XF. I think Hank and Mulder can sometimes be a lot alike (even though we all know Mulder keeps the majority of his thoughts filtered), and I like that "Just when your life can't seem much more pathetic... Jealous of a guy who never, ever gets laid. Spec-fucking-tacular." I didn't catch the Third Watch reference, but it's been awhile since I've seen that show, and I only watched the first few seasons.

Wow, thank you so much! Really, that means so much to me. I'm really glad that you liked the fic.

Hee, yes. I honestly didn't notice it for a while -- at least until midway through the season -- how Hank and Mulder DO have some pretty striking similarities. It's easy to miss them, what with all the things about them that are decidedly NOT similar. I had fun playing with that, though, obviously. ;)

The Third Watch shout-out was in Hank's dream: "He'd be sorry in the morning anyway." It's a close sister to a line from one of my favorite early scenes between Bosco and Faith, when they're about to leave a gang member in enemy gang territory:

Bosco: You're gonna be sad in the morning.
Faith: I'm gonna be sad in the morning anyway.

Eleanore--I know I mentioned it already at the Haven board, but I felt I should here as well. Your story is great. You got Hank. I mean you really got him. The bits with Becca were so profound. He'd never want to mess up in her eyes, because he knows he's a goner then. Poor boy...

I loved the ending scene when Hank told off Karen. I swear, we really could've saw that scene on the ACTUAL show! ;) I'm afraid I didn't catch the TW reference (and I'm a fan), but the XF bit was too cute for words. What would happen if Fox Mulder ever met Hank Moody? Oh, the possibilities...

This was a good beginning. I'm expecting more, my friend. That is, when you're not cranking out research papers. :o

I know! She's really his last lingering tie to decency or an ability to be saved, I think. Or at least, he thinks as much, which is what really matters.

Ooh, another Third Watch fan! They keep coming out of the shadows since I posted this, lol. I think that's very cool.

Oh man, I can only imagine. I'm sure someone will write something about that someday. It just screams "plot bunny", doesn't it? ;)

Heh, I hope I'll write more. I can never promise anything, because I write very sporadically -- and I never force it; I won't write unless inspired, and I won't share something that feels unfinished. But if I come up with something else, I'll be sure to post it.

Thanks again so much for your kind feedback. I really do appreciate it. :)
