Important question:Let's say you got a ticket for making an illegal left turn. The due date for the fine/court appearance was January 23rd and it's now August 18th and you haven't paid it. The ticket was issued in Georgia and you currently live in Michigan. If you're pulled over in Michigan, can the police arrest you ( Read more... )

Hmmm, I doubt they would *arrest* you for one little ticket in another state. I don't know what they'd do. Probably give you a talking to about it? But who knows, you may meet an ornery cop.

I would doubt anyone would actually arrest you, but it depends on how much the fine is worth. If it's for $100, your probably safe for a while, but if it's for $3000 or some outrageous number, then I think you should probably move to Canada and lay low for a while. :o)

I highly doubt that Michigan even knows about the ticket, and they probably never will unless you do something so bad in either state that a multi-state background check is run.

Consider how protective police departments are of their resources. They are loathe to actually go out and investigate anything that's not a violent crime or theft of something of substantial value. The last thing they'd agree to do is respond to APBs for unpaid tickets from other states, assuming they even get APBs for unpaid tickets from other states, which they likely don't.

My mom got a speeding ticket in Louisiana, thought it was too high, and decided not to pay it. That was about 10 years ago.

She's not too worried because on the back of her ticket it said that residences of Louisiana would have a warrant for their arrest and she isn't a resident of Louisiana.

She's gotten tickets in Texas and no one's ever made a mention of her speeding in Louisiana.

Of course ... if you were a resident of Georgia at the time, it could be different - but I doubt it.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
