freedom of excellence

A friend of mine asked me what I was learning in seminary. I explained to him what I was learning in Christian Morality. I think it sums up my class pretty well. So, I'm going to share it with y'all.
Cheers and God Bless

Funny, I thought you were just learning how to play Quidditch and cast Expelliarmus.

So basically, instead of going to seminary you could have watched Bill and Ted and learned to "Be Excellent to Each Other"

Hey thanks for the interesting comment, I thought I'd try to return the favor. I dig your piano metaphor as a way of thinking about morality. If you think of morality as a skill that helps us live an excellent life, then of course we'll want to learn about it, and understand deeply what has come before us. But then, in the soon-to-be-stretched-thin piano analogy, you can imagine learning jazz piano, or classical, or any of a number of styles. And you could be excellent at any of them, or at more than one of them. I guess, still, you can imagine someone knowing all the styles, but having some musicianship that surpasses style. And maybe that's the point of going to seminary.

And maybe the point of learning a rule is to live a life without paying attention so much to the rules.
:)

thanks for the comment
