I've noticed that the books I stumble into on my own tend to be ok but not spectacular while the books people recommend to me are awesome. Let me preface this with an identity clarification. I am not a romantic. Deep in my heart, I am a Utilitarian. I like Utilitarian ethics (with some Kantian edits) and I look at things like, say, my clothing in a very utilitarian way. This is why my clothing tends lean more towards sturdy than pretty.
