Calling all my computer geek friends

So the other day for the first time since I moved I went to d/l a few japanese music videos (so I can make up the dvd for my jrock panel at CTcon) only to discover my utorrent isn't working anymore. I'm using the same cable company for internet, so it might not be my cable blocking it (though that is possible since I did move to a different area ( Read more... )

Does the cable modem have the router built into it? Sometimes you need specific router settings to get the connection to go through.

Is the connection not being made at all, or just being made poorly (slow speeds)?

Can you connect to any other torrents?

It's a wireless cable modem, Motorola SG900 or something like that. So basically one computer can be hard-plugged in (which is my desktop which is the one i'm trying to torrent with) and many computers can be connected wirelessly. Haven't tried doing any torrents with my laptop as I didn't really want to do torrents on my laptop (it's a small unit without a lot of harddrive space)

Not being made at all. does not connect.

Haven't been able to connect with any of the ones I tried to d/l (from 3 different sites, nor do any of the current ones i've been seeding (from several different sites) work)

You might want to check that the port utorrent wants to use is being forwarded to your desktop's IP address. Or, if your modem/router supports it, try enabling uPnP in the modem/router.

When in doubt, Li, reboot the modem and router. =^-^=

I had problems last night with my modem. I wasn't able to go online. I rebooted the system and connectivity was restored. Weird, that! ^^

The reboot trick works if the internet completely doesn't work. that's not the issue here, where it just doesn't like a certain program. But yes, the reboot trick has helped me several times in the past.

I figure it might work even with it resisting one single program but allowing other traffic through. The problem may also not even be on your end, but may be at the main site you wish to visit.

BTW, I hope your knee is feeling better. Take care!
