Hamlet was a depressed dude, wore black all the time. Most teenagers have some sort of depression. Being depressed seems to come with the territory of yours and mine age/social status/education.

Its kinda funny that I've only been gone since Wednesday, but I already miss you and everyone else.

Are you saying that the more we (universal we) learn the more depressed we will be? Does depression go hand in hand with intelligence? Remember that one night you said that we don't associate with people who are stupider than us? That was hilarious.

has every generation before us when they were our age been as depressed?

I don't think so.

Replace 'depressed' with privileged, isolated, suburban, middle-class, educated, self-conscious, uncertain, rational, irreligious, irreverent, escapist, covetous, unsupported, etc. and the answer will be the same. I don't think this is a coincidence, not with any of those adjectives.
