questions for my candidates

Apr 21, 2010 18:15

I've just sent the following email to all my candidates except Labour, Tory and UKIP (because I am not considering voting for them) through this handy website.

This got long. )

democratic reform, politics, civil liberties, elections, queer activism

TUSC has a rather large overlap with No To EU. I'm highly skeptical of their protectionist tendncies, and the civil liberties implicatins, of anti-EU policies, so I'd be v interested to hear about their responses on those points if you go.

Interesting. The only thing in their manifesto that seems to relate to what you're saying is this item ( ... )

My aim is to vote for the person most likely to get Lammy out

Fair enough - not a million miles away from my approach to Raynsford - but in Tottenham, I'm pretty much certain that's not going to be TUSC! Do let me know ow it goes, though.

(Pragmatically, I think being anti-American and also anti-EU is somewhat unworkable, as isolationism is not really very splendid at all. While there's plenty of EU policy & law I don't agree with, I regard the immediate alternative as substantially worse, and have very little time for raving anti-EU nutters.)

Yeah, I'm not sure it's going to be TUSC either but in the lack of a strong Lib Dem campaign I fear the left vote is going to be hopelessly split anyway...

Are you saying TUSC are anti-American or I am? I'm a bit confused about where that came from!

Regarding C5: Isn't this a slightly out-of-date question?

Seconded; for over five years now it's not existed outside of Kent County Council, which is not within the scope of a general election ballot in Tottenham.

*laughs* Yes, should have been "should have been repealed", shouldn't it? Ah well, if that's the only mistake I made I'm not doing badly given my stress levels :) Thanks for pointing it out - not much I can do about it now though ;)

Doesn't it make sense to send it to Labour, Tory and UKIP anyway? I can't see it doing any harm to let them know what issues you are interested in.

I don't want to hear Lammy or Sullivan's posturing, frankly. I can imagine what they'll say on all the above if they get back to me at all, and I can guarantee it'll piss me off.

Tottenham falls in the area of the Seven Sisters Lib Dems, I think, who definitely do exist and have started to make gains on the Council since David Schmitz got involved. Probably a lot of their activists are campaigning in neighbouring seats where we have a better chance of winning, though - nice as it would be to fight equally strongly in all seats, we don't have the resources.

http://www.no2id.net/downloads/Questions_for_candidates.rtf also has some quite interesting questions (although looking at yours, you may have already seen it!)
