"Proportional representation" is a bit of a mouthful to chant

I've just posted a report of the Take Back Parliament demo in London today, including live BBC video of Nick Clegg's spontaneous address to the crowd after we demanded he come out and receive our petition in person. Right now I'm feeling an enormous sense of hope and achievement. We made our shout heard. This is what democracy looks like!Of course ( Read more... )

A quick thought - there's no obvious link to this or to other blog-style posts you might want to do as this develops on the front of the Hang 'Em page. Might be worth adding a menu link.

But HURRAH!

Yeah, good point - I think the Hang 'em team need to meet and discuss what to do with the website post-election, but I don't know how much I'm going to be able to participate in that conversation given the move. For now I've made the flyer for the demo on the homepage link to the writeup :)

Please do send me any press or video links you happen across - I'm really interested in how the coverage turned out!

good for you! sorry not to have been there; was trying (+ failing) to get work done :(

have been seriously impressed & inspired by all the political campaigning you've been doing over the past year or so.

It was incredibly awesome to see you tweeting from the demo at the same time as someone else tweeting about seeing the demo on the news. (Both in a 'yay, people being passionate about making a difference in a way that looks like it's had some effect' way and in a 'hey, I'm living in the future' way)

Hey, if I'd known you were there I'd have dragged our contingent over for more shouting!

It was a good demo, I thought.

the authoritarian big government of the last 13 years has been disrupted

Eh? What about the 18 years before that? The early & mid-80s were *incredibly* authoritarian! PACE was only introduced in 1984, for starters!

While I agree with your core point here, I'm uncomfortable with the use of the term "big government", which often seems to be used as a right-wing dog whistle. I don't necessarily care about having a 'smaller' government (whatever that means), I care about having a fairer, more representative, less oppressive one. Oh, and a much more efficient one. I'm sure that this was not your meaning, but sadly lolbertarians seem to have poisoned the term.

The 18 years before that were another authoritarian big government. *8')

Yes, that's my point. Why draw the line at 1997?
