on being a warrior

Ya know, I've been thinking again. Thinking about what exactly it means to be a warrior and a soldier. The word warrior stems from Middle English with relations to the Old North French word that litterally means "to make war." In todays terms, being a warrior has come to mean someone that is experienced in warfare or a fighter. All of these ( Read more... )

I wish civilian life were imbued with the same import.

The lives of many civilians are - or at least, many of us try to live as if they are. You know this, if you think about it, because you seem to be one of the people who tried to live according to such standards and to make your life count that way - even before swearing The Oath.

It depends on how you live your life, civilians can be warriors for other causes...as I am.

Nice pic of Ice-T as Fin, by the way.

I think that your co-workers are probably very happy that they can't. I can just see the body count.

I was just browsing through and wish to comment on your old post. For me a warrior is someone who will fight for what he/she believes is right despite the opposition(from friend or foe), where as a soldier will fight and follow orders without questioning whether the orders were good or bad. In my opinion a warrior questions the reasons for fighting, a soldier doesn't. This is my opinion.

before going to basic and AIT, I would have agreed with you more. Having gone through the training and seeing what it's really all about I would agree with you on a portion, but disagree with you. An average or bad soldier will execute without question, a good or excellent soldier will always look at why, even if it is only for a split second.

if you have never served, your perceptions and philosophies are more informed than most and your comment is well recieved.
