OK, so I'm about to teach this unit out of my text book...it's about inviting people over and how to accept and decline invitations.  HOWEVER!  For some STUPID reason half this unit is about how Americans wear their shoes indoors, all day.  I don't know about you, but I do not know ANY one who wears their shoes indoors....some my have indoor shoes ( Read more... )

We kind of have the same lesson, it's on customs and it says in America you can wear shoes inside the house.

I told them from my experience in American and Canadian houses, the custom usually is that we start to take off the shoes, and sometimes the host will say not to take of your shoes it is ok, but you still do anyways, or if they don't say anything you take your shoes off. Only in very few circumstances do you go into somebodys house. If it is your own house and you just need to run in for something, then you would leave your shoes on.

I wear shoes inside the house for just a few instances:
1. My shoes are clean.
2. The floor is cold.
3. The floor is dirty.
4. My socks are ugly (hee hee!).

I wear shoes indoors, in my OWN house but not when I'm a guest (that's rude)

-I've got dogs, our floors are ALWAYS dirty, cold, wet etc...
(I also tend to wear boots, and its a pain in the ass to take them off and on with great frequency.)

That said, I love walking around barefoot!

and go ahead with a photo if you need to, doesn't bother me, I'll send one if you need to

I wear shoes in my own house. Except during winter or after rain when I would track in snow or mud. I take my shoes off when I am visiting someone else though.

1) No dirty boots or shoes in the house unless you REALLY need something and you're in a MAJOR hurry.
2) I always take my shoes off in the doorway before I come in, and I never wear shoes in the house. I've only started wearing slippers inside this year, because our apartment is always freezing cold; normally I'm barefoot in the house, because I don't like having my feet constricted by socks, and slippers can get sweaty.
3) Shoes come off at someone else's house, unless they tell you to leave them on "if you want".
4) Sandals are tricky - you don't want to leave your shoes on, but it's also rude to be barefoot in someone else's house, so I usually follow other people's example, or ask the host their preference.
5) The only time I ever had to wear shoes indoors was at the home of the woman who babysat me when I was a child - she demanded that we have a pair of "indoor" shoes. The indoor/outdoor shoe dichotomy also exists at the gym - you have to wear sneakers, but not the ones you wore outdoors.

And yes, you can use a picture of me. There are lots on Facebook, or you can use an old one, your choice.
