Well. I'm up in traverse city for my annual family reunion. It's gorgeous here and I've been excited to spend time with my family for a long time. It's good to see you writing again. I am curious as to your reasoning behind having children being selfless however. In my experiences having a child or wanting to have a child has always been a selfish act, wanting a smaller version of the self in question. Evolutionarily (probably not a word) speaking it's selfish as well, the drive to produce offspring is the drive to recreate your own genes in another, thus making you immortal on some level. It's always interesting to get into these discussions (not with anyone who has kids, as they tend to be overly defensive and simply psychotic). I miss you.

I guess I never thought of having a child as a way to immortalize myself or a vain attempt to have a clone. I think making oneself immortal isn't a genetic thing. Genetically speaking it's just a survival thing. But there are so many humans that having children hardly speaks to its inherent biological function. To me it almost seems like a psychological thing or a social thing ( ... )
