Abby, I just want to tell you that I am sorry you're feeling so homesick. I think your feelings are totally natural and pretty much anyone in your shoes would be feeling the same. I haven't been to New England but I have been to Texas, and let me tell you ... Texas is drastically different than Alberta (which is known as Canada's Texas!). I can't imagine how different it would be from a place like New England. In regards to your idea about love being about sacrifice ... well, to an extent, I agree. But what about compromise? Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't think you should be forced to sacrifice everything to be with the one you love.
Maybe a visit to a different part of the state (a visit to Allie, perhaps?) might make you like Texas a little more. Whatever happens, if you and Kyle love each other as much as I think you do, I'm sure you'll be able to work it out.
I think I mean less "forced to give everything up" and more "willing to give everything up," if that makes sense. Though you're right about the compromise bit. While I think that love should mean that you're willing to give up a lot, I think it can only work if you're able to find a middle ground or compromise on the hard stuff.
