Poor Robert Pattison. Us LJ bitches are so mean to him. I mean, he can't even whore around without us tearing him apart. Can a man not be addicted to booze and loose women anymore without severe mockery? What is this world coming to, I ask you

::spittakes:: Oh, the humanity! Let his people go, he cries, he his people go.
No, I have no idea. I'm a bit nutty right now -- I've been up for hours and hours and hours and daysomg trying to finish my merry_smutmas story before my deadline. That I already had to get a two-day extension on. Oy vey. I'm bad but I'm taking a damn break and I shall answer this lovely poll and leave a massive, rambling comment that probably makes no sense.
If a friend posted a story you really didn't like, you would:
I actually had to deal with this a lot up until a year or so ago -- this friend and I just had lots of really different tastes and whatnot -- that's how I developed my "find something to like and fixate on it" thing when reading. I think that whenever you're dealing with someone who can actually write and isn't just, you know, a complete nutjob, there's almost always going to be something redeeming about a story somewhere -- ( ... )

I try to keep crit to myself if a story has already been posted and it isn't a beta job or they aren't asking for opinions. I don't know why, it would probably be better if I didn't but, you know, that's just what I do.
You know, it's interesting that most people seem to feel this way, that they shouldn't say anythin critical, but a lot of people appreciate constructive crit themselves. It's all rather strange and counter-intuitive.
If the comments were more along the lines of them noting that something sounded clumsy or I'd used a word incorrectly or, god forbid, I'd missed a canon detail... then it would be something that I'd really appreciated seeing and I would thank them profusely for taking the time to type it all up.Yes, that's the kind of comments I meant. But this brings up another point: would you change those things if they were legit criticisms, like say a spelling ( ... )

-... not say anything, I guess. It happens from time to time. But the thing is, my favourite authors aren't necessarily my friends, and my friends aren't always my favourite authors. It's not because someone writes amazingly that you get along with them personally, or even feel the need to seek their company, right?
So, well, I don't expect my friends to like all I do, and I hope they don't expect me to like all they do :-).
I once pointed out an element I disliked in a story of one of my favourite authors and I felt bad about it afterwards. It sounded so negative, whereas she was still a lot better than many others. I've decided not to do it anymore.
Say you just read a story you liked. Do you leave feedback?-Most certainly! Back in the days before I posted my own stuff, I never left comments. Now that I do post, I have become acquainted with the feeling of deep satisfaction generated by reviews ;-), and I consider it my moral duty to inform an author of my appreciation ( ... )

Hm, that's interesting. Did she respond to your comment at all? Did you only comment on the negative aspect, or did you also praise what you liked? I would think that a few negative comments would be okay, as long as you also said what you liked, you know? I know I'd like some constructive crit from time to time so I can improve. Don't get me wrong, I like being offered sex and chocolate, but I like to learn from my mistakes, as well.

I used to never tell a writer/artist that I enjoyed their work, but then I posted my first ( ... )

Oh yes, I did say what I liked as well. The thing is, I had written my comment and then realised I hadn't worded it very nicely. English is my third language, and I used a word I should have checked first - it turned out to sound more negative than I meant it to be. I wrote this author a private e-mail to apologise... She reacted to that mail, saying my comment hadn't freaked her out - she works with abusive teens in RL :D...
When you say "flames," you meant stuff like "ur sick seke help u h0r" stuff, right?
Oh yes, the real thing, twice. For a PG-13 gen story. *le sigh*

I don't have any good Dan icons either. Dammit. I suck at icon making and noone really makes any good ones. Usually half his face is cut off.
Yay! Poll! XD!!!

I don't really mind if they chop off half of his face, as long as the remaining half is pretty, but it never is D: Most icons are of Emma and Robert, for some strange reason.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose friends think they're weird. I haven't yet started talking about the intricacies of the prostate and lube during class, but that's probably coming. Maybe when we discuss Queer Theory XD
