Fic: Deadsville - NOTES AND SOUNDTRACK

Notes: This story has been the worst thing in my life for about nine months now. It started as a small drabble about the boys as a pair of angsty doctors, which grew to be a 10K-word story TOPS. But then bigbang stuff was coming due and I couldn't decide what to write. So I looked at my bulging mess of a WIP folder and plucked this one out of the heap, thinking that maybe with a little hope, a subplot, and a damn good rewrite it might hit 20,000 and not suck. I don't know about the not sucking (I'm too close to the stove, as it were), but it's lengthy and angsty.
I'll be honest, though. All parents have favorite children, right? This is not one of my favorites. It's difficult and surly, thoroughly self-absorbed, and it has been driving me crazy for months.
ANYWAY. I'm sure you'll like it. Like I said, too close to the stove here.
I had a references post but to tell you the truth, you don't need it. Splenic ectopic pregnancy really has happened. The OB on that case in Kentucky was the father of one of my good RL friends, who has been (unknowingly) a huge resource here.
Oh, and yeah. Andy's dad? He's a real player. I think it's pretty obvious who he is. :)
I'm not a Bay Area kid, no matter how hard I root for the Giants or say "hella" (both of which I do), so I tried to keep the location-particulars vague enough. All apologies for inacurracies, etc. If you're curious, the Oakland A who recognizes Jared at the charity function is second baseman Mark Ellis. If you want to know more about that team, check out candle_beck. Make sure you have two weeks of your life to dedicate to reading fic, too, because she's got A LOT.
