Sparksong
Sparksong is less of a story and more of a 'verse.
By this I mean that it has no real plot yet (though hints are showing through) but it does have characters (a whole bunch of them) and a world they live in. I dreamed up the first of the eight "main" characters some seven years ago (it was Irene, if you're curious, and she was fairly similar to her current incarnation: blonde, tall, and angry). Then came the twins, then more kept piling on until Briar, when I declared the application station CLOSED, thankyouverymuch.
These guys have been looking for a home for a loooong time. I, being economical, started putting them all over the place - Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Avatar... it wasn't pretty - until finally in October 2011 I decided to take the NaNoWriMo challenge and set up a whole new world for them. I failed spectacularly - by the end I was just churning out crap and sticking a car freshener on it - but it did make me realize that they deserved better.
