It seems like people are starting to come back to LJ. Only a handful of people, fair enough, but more than the "nobody" who seemed to be here a year ago

I've actually made a number of new friends on LJ in the past year. It makes me really happy! Most of the people I knew here from way back are not on anymore, though there are a few exceptions. Still, there does seem to be more of a community here than there was during the worst of the abandonment. I have hope that it will settle into a satisfying community, if a smaller one, where I can have the kind of personal, long-form interactions with folks that is so sadly lacking in other social media formats.
I reconnected with almost everyone I've ever known on FB (which is why I have more than 200 friends who I've mostly met IRL). The thing is, the "reconnection" mostly consisted of a couple of "OMG what are you up to these days?" messages followed by occasional "likes". I posted my email in my status and it's on my profile, and how many people emailed me when I stopped hanging out there? None. Nada. *sigh*
I also hate that they've pretty much nerfed the message inbox in favour of FB chat. I liked exchanging long , involved messages that didn't pop up in a person's chatbox with no option to have it sent to an inbox unless that person has chat turned off. I guess I'm not good at keeping up with the times anymore.
