Handedness poll

I'm right-handed. I use my right-hand to do most things that require skill or involve reaching, except when I drive I always use my left hand to hold the wheel, regardless of the side of the road I'm driving. So I'm curious - what's your "degree" of handedness?

I thought it was actually mentioned in the book whether Harry was right or left handed. Heh I'm actually studying psychology so this actually came to pass. The fact that people generally have a more dominant left hemisphere makes that the majority of the people is right handed. Your right hemisphere is usually associated with emotions and creative flow, so it's generally assumed artist are more left handed relative to most people. However I hope it's not the case. I draw and paint a lot, and am absolutely right handed. (which is highly annoying with learning how to juggle and do poi) The left hemisphere (thus the general dominant hemisphere) is more associated with language and logic.

'Tis.

"[Ollivander] pulled a long tape measure with silver markings out of his pocket. 'Which is your wand arm?'
'Er - well, I'm right-handed,' said Harry."

I don't think Draco's is... but he seems like a lefty, to me. I'm glad I'm not alone in that. ^_^

That's why I need my flist. Thank you ♥

Seems that many of us think that Draco is a lefty - I wonder what personality traits are commonly associated with left-handed people... *ponders*

Woah... you mean my obsessive knowledge of canon facts is actually useful?!

You are most welcome. :)

Now, that is interesting. Why would more people think Draco was left-handed? Interesting poll, Lil. And I knew you did it for a reason ;-).

I find that interesting, too. I wonder if it is because most of us are right-handed and we sometimes idolize what we're not. I also wonder what personality traits are commonly associated with left-handed people.

You know me. ;-)

You see it in a positive light. I rather thought people think of Draco as left-handed because the left is associated with things dark and wrong. The Left Hand of Darkness, even, with shifting genders, too (which would be positive again ;-). I found a fic which had the Harry-right-handed-scene at Ollivander's recounted as Draco getting his first wand, and it had him respond to Ollivander's question that he was "left-handed" :-). Not canon, though, even the wand was wrong.

When it comes to H/D, you are (somewhat) predictable :-). But aren't we all? *hugs*

Ah. Yes. There are cultures relating Left as wrong and illegal. I only thought Draco being a lefty because it kinda increases his allure. /fangirl speak>

I might want to go ahead and read The Left Hand of Darkness simply for the shifting genders and maybe find a Draco-lookalike among the gender-shifters *g*. I'm so predictable, aren't I?

*hugs back*

Since Draco is ~special~ (to me) he's left handed. And since I love Harry Potter and basically do anything with my right hand unless I have to use the left, Harry Potter is right-handed.
Easy. And Harry wants to be normal and I get the feeling that most special heros are left handed. So Harry is an exception.

Seriously I'm such a right hander it's weird. I always do everything with my right hand. I can't write a single word with my left.

Me neither. Just like you, I do almost everything with my left hand.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

You're welcome. My mother sometimes points it out. Like I could do anything about it.

And what help would it be if I could use both? XD

about a steering wheel: it probably depends on where your steering wheel is placed in the car: left or right. I can't hold it with my right hand because on the right I have gears.

But of course I rest my right hand on the gearshift a lot...

I hold the wheel with both hands a lot, actually.

I see. I've driven on either side of the road, but the cars are all auto, so I can use either hand to steer.

But yeah, I didn't think about manual shift when I made that question. Thanks for responding!
