I was very sad to hear of Leonard Nimoy's passing.

My first super-sized fandom crush, Mr. Spock. I spent the years from 1984 to 2001 voraciously reading Star Trek fanfiction and hunting down Spock h/c. It was torture in those years before the 'net. I actually owned fanzines, since there wasn't anything else ( Read more... )

We never forget our first.

I think he was the first crush for a lot of science fiction fans, just one of the many reasons his death is hitting so hard, I think. Heck, I've met casual viewers who admit they watched because they found Spock fascinating (his favorite word, coincidentally), and that made him attractive.

Two days later, and it still hurts to even look at this picture. My heart goes out to his family. R.I.P.

What a lovely tribute, Lily. Yes, I think Spock was my first grown-up crush. He certainly stayed a crush throughout my life, which says something for Nimoy's portrayal and the strength of the character.

What I learned yesterday (knew, but learned more of) is how supportive, kind, and generous Leonard Nimoy was in real life. He's a loss worth mourning, and a life worth celebrating. Peace and Long Life, Lily.
