Snape not a hero?!!!

Jul 26, 2007 20:42

Excuse me? Whatever bitch! Man I can't believe she said that! I know Snape is nasty, he's a very grey character but he's still a hero! Whatever his motives, he put himself in harms way many times for the good of Harry, Dumbledore and the Order!! And she said it to a bunch of 11 year olds. Way to inspire Jo! And to think she used to be my ( Read more... )

Ok, never mind...I found out what I missed. I don't think she knows what a hero is. A hero isn't necessarily someone who wears a "white hat". Seems to me as though that's what she thinks a hero is. I'm not so sure that Snape wouldn't have tried to protect Harry...he never hurt any of the students and always seemed to be agitated when they were in danger. If he didn't react to threats to the students, I'd say no, he wouldn't have tried to keep Harry safe.

To be honest, I've always thought JK was a bit off...especially since the time she told kids that Harry might not survive. She gives the impression that she gets a kick out of jerking people around (as Alex said, and I have to agree with that).

Yeah I know! If he totally didn't care about anyone but himself and perhaps Harry then he could have done much more damage. Of course a person doesn't have to be totally good to be a hero! The best heroes are the anti-heroes! (Am I saying that right? anti-heroes brain is dead...).

Yeah I don't know about her telling kids that, I mean the kid who asked obviously thought he was a hero, why does she have to go and say he's not?!! GRRR

I do think that she's wrong about Snape not being "remotely interested" in Harry, if not for Lily. The way she wrote the character says that he would have tried to protect Harry, at least a little...if for no other reason than the fact that James had saved his (Snape's) life.

I watched the interview, and now I'm really pissed off. I love the HP series, but I've never been real keen on JK herself.

This genuinely surprises me. What with all the time she took to craft this character, you'd think she'd at least learn to know/love it...

Certainly explains why she did him in the way she did; she doesn't believe he deserved more...

Well now she says she thinks he's a hero. Very confusing. But still he didn't die well really. It takes more than a snake to kill Professor Snape!

Well Snape is an anti-hero. He fought his inner demons and eventually did the right thing anyway. But I was quite mad when this interview came out I could hardly believe it! Though now she's saying that Snape is indeed an anti-hero.
