So. I haven't posted in a while, as I've been self absorbed in my weird little life over the past couple of weeks. First off, thank you to all who filled out the survey for me so I can get free Star Wars toys. Yay Toys

Thank you. How long to you move back to the Chicagoland area . . . ? We miss you. BTW, I found out Drscam lives literally about ablock and a half from me . . . I ran into him buying pizzas at the Thorton's by us one night! :)
Seriously though...I've changed jobs several times since college. When you change jobs...there's a lot of grieving in the process. Seems weird...but you spend more time at work during the week than at home. And those people will disappear out of your life...almost guaranteed. So it's a lot like they've died.
Expect a little grieving. It's natural. It would be weird if you didn't. And that'll be coupled with the stress of all the new relationships you'll need to build at the new workplace.
I get the sadness about leaving. I've spent the last 6 years in school and Hated (with a capital H in 36 pt font) 4 of them. My former "mentor" = >insert multiple profanities<. Loved other people I worked with though; made some great friends. The idea that I would -not- see them every day (some never) was/is hard to wrap my brain around. When it came time to clean my bench and dump out solutions, had tears in my eyes.
(Turned out, I managed to get a short-term job down the hall from my old lab, my new boss and I still have frequent interactions with my old lab, so I haven't properly left-left yet. But I didn't know that at the time I was cleaning up.)
I never did get that toy in the mail. Did you receive yours?

So, can I ignore the message I got yesterday asking for my opinion of your job potential? Obviously, you applied with other places =)

That is so funny that Mike lives down the street! You guys should totally put together a tabletop game -- he loves to min/max.
