A little something for my glorious captain sangueuk's birthday. Being smart, deep and badass, she loves sex mixed with philosophy, and so I went and wrote slightly shmoopy angst. Maybe imagining them all with Southern accents will help.

Summary: Jim accompanies Bones to the McCoy annual picnic, which under the circumstances counts as a favor, especially in ( Read more... )

Now that's a Pigeon Forge I'd like to see. :-)

I'm a McCoy from East Tennessee, so you can imagine how much I enjoyed the setting.

You're a McCoy? From East Tennessee?? Why, ma'am, allow me to shake your hand. What fun that must be as a Trek fan!

Yeah, I had some fun wiping the tourist traps off the map. Shlock in central Florida is one thing, but in the middle of the Smokies is quite another (sorry, Floridians).

I swwar, I was having a panic attack the whole time I was reading this. Thank GOD it ended the way it did. Whew.

Bones' mom reminds me of my great grandmother. Jim is so, so hurt here and it's really palpable. *hugs them both*

I thought it would be interesting to make the elder Mrs. McCoy a standard-issue tedious relative, the better to inconvenience Jim and Bones when they were trying to work out their issues.

I think every family has a fretful flower--a legacy of an age where women weren't given enough to do, and so hopefully not very common in the future.

*relieved sigh*

Oh man, I was so tense and upset with the boys for most of it, then Bones finally 'fessed up, and ahhhhhh. *squishes the boys, and you, SO HARD!!!!*

Oh, thank you! Yeah, I could only torture myself for about 3K, then it was time to get them back together :)

This is really great. I love reading how-they-got-together stories, but it's rare to see one about how they got back together-as much as I love first-time goodness, I love even more reading about characters who feel like real people in a real relationship, which these two do here. (Also I love Zara.) Wonderful job!

That's one of the beauties of J/B, isn't it? With two strong personalities that start as friends--not to mention very stressful jobs--it's easy to imagine them having ups and downs but coming out stronger in the end. So glad it hit the spot!
