This is brilliant. I love the honesty and the compassion the boys have for each other.

*sniffles* This was beautiful, bb. Touching. I loved how Rhett was a hero, but not because he felt like he had to be, but just because he's a good guy, with a good heart, and he knows what it feels like to be battered, even if it was just emotionally.

And this: “Yes, we’re particularly known for our trolls.” made me laugh out loud!

I don't know if there are any Kiwis out there who can speak to this, but wouldn't it be strange to have your country be famous for a movie set in a mythical time and place?

Glad you enjoyed it, hon!

Lol it is pretty weird when the first response to 'I'm from New Zealand' is "Oh that place with Lord of the Rings right?". Or "my son worked on the movie did you know him?" (Seriously its funny, but we're a country of over 4 million people over two islands we don't know everyone!!! :D) - but better that then "Oh wow see many Kangaroos?"

Well, I suppose it's good that they at least know that a) it's a country and b) it's somewhere near Australia. Americans are capable of much worse, believe me!

I understand that Peter Jackson has been excellent for tourism...as to whether you enjoy having your country overrun by be-cloaked foreigners, that I cannot say.

But love isn’t a thing that shows up like a migrating bird; it’s something two people create, plus maybe chemicals or sunspots or some science shit I don’t understand.

I think I need this on a t-shirt or a piece of cross-stitch on the wall.

This was absolutely lovely. Two lonely travelers providing comfort for each other in the most basic, human way. It gives you hope.

I hereby assign you all profits from T-shirt and tchotchke sales. I never meant to turn into Jack Handey, honestly.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story!
