I particularly liked Pike's thoughts / reasons for resigning his Captaincy and Spock's assessment of Kirk, which so neatly encapsulated the reasons he and Kirk complemented each other so well in TOS.

I agree, Pike was one of the real gifts of nu!Trek--he brought a kind of Naval-era sense of gallantry to the proceedings and nicely balanced out all the Hot Young Things. I really hope to see him back in the next movie.

It's also a beautiful charactor study of Pike, and to a lesser extent, Kirk and Spock. I memmed it as STXI missing scenes, Pike's POV.

In my mental alternate reality, Kirk serves as first officer under Pike for a few years (maybe while Spock is off doing his filial duty on Vulcan). I think they'd make a fantastic team. Anyhow, thanks for reading and commenting!
