i had no idea. working in my dads clinic for so many years i was always shocked at some people's cases. not that we sat around and talked about them all but once in a while if i knew someone was noteworthy i'd sneak a peak at their xrays. ((hugs))
I was going to respond to your response to Jennie's comment, cause that's kinda where this goes...tinkAugust 1 2007, 04:28:09 UTC
I also identified so much with Lucy Grealy's book that I read it in one gulp, sitting on the floor of the bookstore where I picked it up to read a few pages see if I could handle it (it is my face, like Lucy's, that bears all my scars

I'M MADE OF TITANIUM TOOOOO.
ok martha DO PEOPLE ALWAYS ASK YOU IF YOU SET METAL DETECTORS OFF? people alllllllllllllllways ask me that and they allllllllllllllways think they're the first ones. it doesn't BOTHER me or anything, i just think it's funny. i'm like OH I HAVE METAL IN MY SPINE and their faces light up and i'm like IT'S POSSIBLE BUT IT'S NEVER HAPPENED. -_-
i think it's funny too when people treat me like i'm really small and fragile b/c of my surgeries...like 'oh no lindsey don't lift that, you have a bad back!' b/c i'm like UHH THAT MAKES ME THE ONE WITH THE METAL BACKBONE.
The secret is, I sort of wish I DID set off metal detectors!tinkAugust 1 2007, 17:51:01 UTC
One time, I was in a minor car accident and I smashed my head against the windshield and when the firemen came to ask me how I was, I said, "It's fine! I'm made of titanium!" and I think they thought I was delirious.
It might sound empty, but I understand. Especially the part about getting old. I have my own set of problems that terrify me when I think of how much I hurt now, and how much I will hurt then.
I'll have to read that book though, thanks for the recommendation.
