It's really odd to hear about NVivo not running on a Mac, back when I knew Lyn Richards and she was writing the precursor, NUDIST, it was written on a Mac and they were the first people I'd ever met deliberately programming things for the Mac ( ... )

Nud*ist started off as mainframe software (written in LISP), and made it onto Mac and PC in version 3 - it was available for Macs a bit earlier (~1993), but appeared on PC once Windows 95 was released ( ... )
