MLS to PDX

We did it! The Portland City Council voted 3-2 in the past hour in favor of the proposal to renovate PGE park to be the new home of an MLS franchise in 2011. Now it's my understanding that we already won the bid and the league has just been waiting for us to guarantee the facilities, so it should only be a matter of time and paperwork before we ( Read more... )

This affront to baseball shall not be taken lightly. I propose a boycott of any soccer-related activities in PGE park until a suitable downtown replacement is constructed.

Actually from what I'm hearing, a lot of Beavers fans are quite happy with this. You seem to be in a minority for actually liking PGE park, as I keep hearing people clamoring over the benefit of a new, more intimate setting is going to be at a smaller ballpark tailored for a AAA team. I can't tell you when they expect to have construction complete, but I imagine Merritt Paulson wants to give them as smooth of a transition as he can manage so he doesn't lose money on them while he's already in the hole from the investment in MLS. Come to think of it, I really don't know what's going to happen to the Timbers and the Beavers in the 2010 season, because by that point there's going to be some major construction at PGE park and the fence should be down. I don't know if they can get a ballpark up in the Rose Quarter in just under a year. So... good luck on that!
