Done, done, done

And I don't mean the opening three notes of Beethoven's Fifth. I'm done with jury duty. Whew! It was exhausting and I have an awful headache. Arguing is hard work, and it's amazing how very entrenched people can be when they make snap decisions.

I shan't go on and on, ad infinitem, however, I met some lovely people, and was amazed at how well ( Read more... )

::nods:: I enjoyed it too. The drive was a bitch, but the entire process was fascinating. I'd have loved to have you on a panel with me . . . wouldn't that have been a hoot?

I'm so pleased you've found a diet that's working for you. Congratulations. I think the first three weeks are the hardest -- because you're resizing your stomach and retraining your habits. Good luck!

In a jury of twelve relative peers, we agreed unanimously that the Plaintiff and Defendants all lied, as did their principal witnesses.

In the immortal words of Gregory House, everybody lies.

*stomach growls* Dinner sounds good. Have a good evening!

LOL! I've never seen that episode of House -- which is probably the only television I ever watch deliberately (and that's maybe once a month.)

Dinner was yummy. I've learned to like potatoes with a tiny slice of butter and a dollop of Dijon mustard. Mmmm. They're really good that way.

I hope your evening was great . . . but maybe you've posted something recently and I'll find out when I read my f-list.

I was wondering what happened to you! I'm sure you were a wonderful and fair juror. My DH was called for jury duty on a capital murder trial last year, but he was able to get out of the four month trial.

I have a crock pot, but only I've used twice: once to make a chicken dish from when I tried Switchin' Kitchens (ICK) -- and promptly threw out -- and recently, when I made some awesome meat, sort of like a brisket. I'm thinking about making Beef Bourguignonne this week in it. I've made the Barefoot Contessa's version for a winter dinner party, but it has cognac and wine -- a bit too much liquor for my young companions.

I've been sucked into the vortex of the American legal system! ::laughs:: It wasn't that bad, just frustrating in several ways.

I would have hated being on a capital murder trial. It's difficult enough to make decisions which affect people's livelihoods, but to make those decisions about whether people live or die is something else entirely.

I started using the crock pot only recently, and mostly on the weekends when we're going to be out all day and want to come home to something hot and ready. I'll set the timer on the rice cooker and fill the crock pot with meat and vegetables, and seven hours later . . . voila! It's done.

O.o. The beef bourguignonne looks delicious -- and I agree about cognac and wine being too much. The flavor of the wine tends to overpower the flavor of the meat -- and my taste buds have changed since we've toned down our cooking because of the kids.

Me, too! I'm very happy to be done, but I am glad that I did it. It was really interesting and I met some very nice people in the process.

The potatoes were great! My eldest didn't want his baked so he chopped it up and pan-fried it, with a little garlic and pepper, until the potato was crispy, and then he melted a handful of shredded cheese on top of it. He let me have a bite and it was scrumptious! I'm going to do that for a brunch one of these days.

No, they didn't, and I honestly expected it to happen. Mom worked in the same court house as I served until October when she retired, but the judge didn't know her personally -- only by reputation -- and neither did the attorneys. I also told them about my legal background (I worked for medical malpractice attorneys while I was in college and then for the legal department in a film studio for seven years.) They kept me anyway -- I think they may be desperate for good jurors (and that opinion wasn't swayed when one of the jurors barely spoke enough English to understand the questions.)

I think they don't ask you now because they haven't really found you yet. Just wait! They'll ask.
