Here, There, Everywhere

I'd forgotten just how much fun it is to carry a book to read. Usually I just carry a small notebook to jot down ideas, lines of dialogue, or other tidbits to jog my memory at a later time. However, in the last few weeks, my life has been so fractured in terms of my focus that I haven't been writing at all. But I've been reading ( Read more... )

Hmm... I'll definitely have to add him to my list. And I'm totally with you about reading books about familiar places.

AE Hotchner's King of the Hill holds a special place in my heart for that reason, and because of its movie translation was filmed in my elementary school

If you're going to try one, go for the second book, because I think it's better. The opening chapter (one page) is an excellent setup.

I've never read King of the Hill ... would you recommend it?

I'm home! :)

I unpacked the books first - no surprises there, and the biography of John Adams was the perfect present for John (brother). I'm tossing up which one to start - so many choices. ;)

Yay! I'm glad you're home and safe. Did you see the GP today?

It's good to hear John liked the John Adams book. With his interest in American history it seemed a really good fit. I know what you mean about all the choices. I still have The Historian to tackle. I'd forgot about it until this last weekend and so I've got to hunt it up for the 'to be read' pile.

No, I decided to see the GP later today, as I took one look at my leg and freaked. I reasoned that my GP would react similarly, so decided it was prudent to get the swelling down a bit. ;)

I'm still deciding between the Conan Doyle, The Ring and the Codex 632 as to which I'll start first. The Codex looks interesting, so it may well win out. :)

I rang my NUM yesterday afternoon - first words out of her mouth (before I got a chance to say anything) were, 'can you work tonight?' *sigh*

She's very supportive, and I have some long service leave up my sleeve that I'll probably have to use. I'll know what's going on later today once I seen the Dr.

I'm surprised the knee was able to swell that much considering the effort you went to with the jeans and the support sock. Probably a good thing you rested it though -- your GP would've reacted I'm sure.

Ah, ah, ah! That Codex really grabbed your attention, I recall. Let me know if it's good.

I'm hoping for the best with regards to your knee, but having seen it, I don't think you'll be working for awhile.

So put Connelly's A Time to Kill on my little reading list? (I've been compiling one)

Sorry. I wasn't clear. It's John Grisham who wrote Time to Kill, but I'd definitely put Michael Connelly's The Brass Verdict on your list. It comes out in a couple of months -- Mom got a copy of it at the ABA convention last month. He was so nice to sign it for her too, since he's one of her favorite writers. I hadn't planned to read it, but I was all out of books for the plane back from Dallas. Once I started it, I was hooked.

I'm a big fan of Mr Connelly and try to read all his stories; his genre is one of my favourites for bathtub reading!

I think his best book was The Poet, if you get a chance to read it.

You are? Excellent. My mom is as well, and she's the one I nabbed the galley proof from. His next book is extremely good. I actually liked it better than The Lincoln Lawyer, but it may be because it was the first time I'd read him at all, and I was thrilled with his quality.

The Poet? I'll definitely look for it, and thanks so much for the rec.

Oh, Michael Connelly, how I adore you!

I enjoyed that book very much, and I also read his Harry Bosch detective series <3

I'm so excited to have a new character/author to read.

I haven't read Harry yet, but my mother has a number of his books. Connelly is one of her favorite authors. In fact, when he signed his galley proof for her he wrote, ... with all the best wishes of Harry and Mickey. She was thrilled.
