Bloodsucking Fiends

by Christopher Moore isn't quite what I had anticipated. I've read snatches of his other books, 'Fluke...' and 'Coyote Blue', and I know Mundungus42 loves his work as does my mom. He's amusing and deft with a turn of phrase, and while I enjoyed this book about a nascent vampire and a wannabe writer transplanted to the streets of San Francisco, I ( Read more... )

It's so disappointing getting recs from people and then feeling just indifferent about the thing they loved.

Oh well.

Ack I know what you mean there. If people start something I've ranted about I always get nervous that they won't like it, and almost wish I hadn't said anything. I don't want them to be disappointed, or feel like they're in a tight spot because they don't like telling me they didn't like it...

I know what you mean. I didn't even tell my mother that I'd read it when I spoke with her today. I'm trying to find the right words ...

It's always a surprise, especially when you have agreed with them on other books, films, and music.

I rave enthusiastically about his books "Lamb" and "Fool," but "Fluke" left me kind of "meh," so I know not all of his books are to my taste. Having not read "Bloodsucking Fiends," I shall be certain not to do so now. But seriously, give "Fool" a chance- it does to MacScottishPlay what "Lamb" does to the New Testament and does so with equal hilarity.

And I remember you reading little snippets of 'Lamb' aloud. It was terribly amusing, which may be why I had such high hopes of this book. There were a few passages I loved, but they were few and far between.

I may have to dig up 'Fool' just for the fun of it, and give it a try.

The good news, dearest, is that you know my mum has very similar taste in fiction to yours.
