Partly to see if I could, kinda like "how long can I stay awake?". Mostly .. well my friend Vin puts it best: "Fasting reminds, helps me, at least, to focus on the most intimate, frequent, and selfish consuming that I do - eating. A pre-Christmas fast is a meditation on the importance of celebration, the mixed blessings of plenty, and helps me to enjoy the excesses of the holiday when they finally arrive."

By "eating consciously", I mean being aware of why I'm eating. While fasting, I found myself reaching for the doughnuts at work when I passed them, getting up to make a sandwich when there was nothing good on TV, etc. I want to stop eating when I'm bored or whenever food is placed in front of me when I'm not actually hungry.
