Tomorrow's light would mourn his freedom

Apparently there is something about college football I don't understand. Because I cannot, for the life of me, understand why all the analysts and college football types keep sucking the dick of USC. Like if anyone even mentions them getting beaten, it's like you're suddenly saying the world is flat. I thought one of the major selling points of ( Read more... )

Here's the thing. During the LSU-Va Tech game, Kirk Herbstreit said that there was no way that he would rank LSU above USC, even after seeing, first hand, LSU tear down arguably one of the top defenses in the country while simultaneously shutting down an extremely decent offense. His reasoning was that USC was idle last week, so he has nothing to compare to LSU. This argument is fair enough. I can see why someone would stubbornly stick to their pre-season poll.

However, this week, LSU is playing Middle Tennessee, a game which is not on TV, and USC will be playing at Nebraska. Nebraska is currently ranked #14 and Va Tech was ranked #9. I think I'd have an argument that Kirk Herbstreit (and everyone else that kept USC at #1) has no clue if he keeps USC at #1 if they aren't able to a) score 35+ points while b) only allowing less than 10. And I'm giving USC the benefit of a lower standard than LSU lived up to last week since USC's on the road.

Also: Peyton Manning is a god who will live on in history as one of the greatest quarterbacks the NFL has ever see.

No QB in the NFL right now is even worthy of being compared to Peyton Manning. Tom Brady's TEAM might beat Manning's TEAM, but Manning and Brady heads-up is laughable.

Yeah, I agree with you two points. For some reason, people stick to their pre-season rankings unless said team wins or loses. It's hard a team that wins to catch a team above it who also wins, pretty much for the sole reason of "I had them ranked higher before any football was played." Don't like that at all.

I'm betting on the Nebraska game to be closer than people think. Maybe not betting, but hoping.
