Yikes. It's particularly disheartening that Big Sur, one of my prime destinations upon moving to the West Coast, is on fire. That bothers me on a fundamental level. These fires, however, are largely due to lightning strikes, so that sits better ( Read more... ) -

CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina (AP) -- Suspension lines on 13 parachutes were cut before a training exercise last month, forcing three jumpers to use their reserve chutes, the Marine Corps said Tuesday.

And so it begins.
It rained today. What's more, it rained horizonally, thanks to massive wind gusts, Wizard of Oz style. No Floyd playing in the background, though. Sitting through a lecture on Machine Learning, I was certain that the roof above my head was about to fly off into the ether. That didn't happen, unfortunately, but some trees did get knocked down.
