Monday Evening L'Orinoco

May 08, 2006 16:52

On her way home from City Hall, CJ dashed in to Cuisine du Terroir and picked up enough food for Beverly, Ten and herself. Once home, she plated the dishes, everything from onion soup and a salad of baby greens with tomatoes and duck confit, to the main dish of Coq-au-Vin with sauteed green beans and crepes filled with mushrooms. She'd also picked ( Read more... )

Ten kissed her back, then drank some wine. "I'll eat in the TARDIS so I can spy on you. Though I think Carol might be spying on you too, so that might work, as long as she doesn't swoon every time I ask her to pass the salt. Think it's the accent." He stretched a little and yawned. "Who's coming over?"

She laughed and waved her hand, "Carol's three floors down. Eat in the TARDIS, you'll at least have control of the tv...and way less lace. And you won't have to deal with her dog." she said with a knowing look. The teacup chihuahua was adorable, but Carol treated her like a doll.

"The accent's actually why I want you out of here. Dr. Beverly Crusher is coming over to discuss some business about the Bahzir clinic and this idea for outreach she has...and I don't need her swooning over you too."

"Beverly...Crusher." He thought for a moment. "Oh yes. I don't think much fazes her, though. And you know I bloody hate that dog."

"Yeah, but she loves you." she said with a wicked gleam in her eyes and she moved closer, "She wuuuvs you so much." she teased, then broke into laughter. "Do you know our newest doctor?"

Frank the doorman was quite kind, particularly when Beverly gave him a charming smile. However, he was probably used to redhaired women with long legs, she reflected as she took the elevator up to the Mayor's apartment.

Making sure everything was in order, the only thing missing was the guest. Opening the curtains wide to let the evening sun in, she turned quickly at the sound of the phone.

"Hello?...Oh, thank you Frank. I appreciate that." she said as she crossed the penthouse and opened the door, waiting for the elevator.

The doors to the elevator opened, and Beverly looked around quickly before she spotted CJ. "Hello," she said, smiling shyly, and handed her a box (containing a small cake). "I didn't want to come empty-handed to someone's home, even just for business."

"That's so kind of you, Beverly. Please, come in. I didn't cook, but I have a fantastic meal anyhow. This will be great for after." she said smiling brightly and stepping out of the doorway to usher Beverly through. "I'm really glad we could do this so soon. I don't think it should wait."

"Please. Do you want me to help clear u--"

As Beverly said this, she was cut off by a flash of white light, which was frankly all too familiar...

"I'll have an Americano, no sugar, and if you have real cream, by all means," a male voice said. The voice was also all too familiar.

She sat, stunned. She looked from the man to Beverly and back, then shook her head almost imperceptibly and stood to clear the dishes. "Actually it's French press, but I do have cream...um..." she looked at him and furrowed her brows, "You look so familiar..."

"I did see an espresso machine over there, Claudia Jean." The man settled into his seat, next to Beverly. "You're not going to deny a man some java after trillions of lightyears of travel, are you?" He smiled smugly. "And the name is--"

"Q," Beverly said, sitting stiffly and looking as if she wanted to rip the man's ears off.

"Now, don't interrupt, I was just checking up on you and decided to drop in on an acquaintance." Q leaned back, arms crossed. "It's a pleasure to see you again, Miss Cregg. Moving up in the ranks, are we?"

She stared at him for another minute, her mouth slack and then she blinked and smiled, "Al? Al Kiefer? Why are you...what...you're not..." she stammered, unable to express a clear thought, then she shook her head and wandered into the kitchen to get the espresso maker going since he'd asked so nicely.
