Knitting versus KNITTING, Running versus RUNNING

I visit several knitting blogs on a semi-daily basis just to see what projects other people in the world are working on. On one blog, there was a highly agitated discussion amongst comment posters regarding whether or not scarf knitters should be able to call themselves knitters since all they do is knit scarves ( Read more... )

Just like some people only consider those who run every step of 26.2 miles to be considered a marathoner, even though many who may have taken a quick walk break beat other "marathoners" to the line.

Along with the "dumbing down" of the knitters, there's this issue about the "slowing of the marathon". Yeah the average times get slower every year, but that's because there's more new people who start out slow! I'd rather see thousands of people running slow than only a few fast elite marathoners doing these things.

good post! I find the concept of "knitting poseurs" amusing, but then agian, I find a lot of things amusing.

You're right, the distaining hardcore exist in everything... probably just justifying their own use of time.
