They don't let you explore the volumes -- they're roped off! It's very sad :(

I've definitely seen the keycard before, and not just in Britain and Ireland. I forget where - it might have even been in the US sometimes, but I don't remember.

I've never seen it in the U.S. before, but I'll have to keep my eyes out for it. Wasn't a problem once I figured out how it worked.

Sounds like fun! Another reason to attend Consequences -- the opportunity to explore Ireland before the LARPs. I would love to have seen the exhibit on the Book of Kells.

IAWTC -- I'd love to see more Americans there. I'm hoping to have a more updated blog post about Stuff Wot You Need to Know To Go to Consequences in the future.

You've not seen the keycard thing before? It's pretty usual for most chain hotels.

I've actually not been to Ireland. I really, really should. it's not like it's that far away.

Oh, so that's where the name Pangur-Ban comes from! I wondered back when I read these books as a child:

The keycard itself, yes -- that's what most hotels I've been to have for locks. I've just never seen it used for power before.

Orchard Thieves? With a fox on the label? It appears that you went to Ireland and drank NZ cider.

Huh! I did not know that. That's an awfully long way to ship cider!
