Tonight I've been trawling around on LJ communities and I kinda think LJ is way better than facebook, etc, in so many ways. Pity that so many people dropped it like a hot potato, I suppose FB just works better for most people who don't have anything more to say for themselves than one-line of bullshit or clicking the 'Like' button.
I love finding ( Read more... )

Agree completely. I wish more people felt encouraged to join LJ. I'll probably set up a Facebook account, but only because so many people are just on Facebook.

I joined fb just because I live so far away from most of my friends, it helps me feel less homesick. But the majority of what's written on fb is rubbish.

They have 'Notes' which some people use as a blog, but I don't really understand what the Notes option is actually intended for. It's not user-friendly for blogging. They'll probably come up with something at some point.

I remember a time when so many people I knew had blogs and everyone kept in touch on here, now almost everyone I talk to on LJ I've never met in person. Which is why I've started adding people I don't know, don't want things to dry up completely ;-)
Still good to see some of the communities going strong.

I agree. LJ is a lot better than fb. The only thing with fb is that because you have the fb "wall" it makes brief interactions easy. A lot of the status updates are rubbish though... I have to admit I'm guilty of posting some dumb updates myself.

I do like looking at people's pics, etc on fb, and yeah it's good for making contact with people. Nah you actually post some good stuff sometimes, I'm always interested in the PETA stuff. Like the Lipton thing, me and Lipton are over!

Yeah it is amazing how much of the consumable stuff we take for granted has horrific effects on people and/or animals, depending on where it comes from. Lipton is made by a company called Unilever; they test on animals and make a wide range of consumable items including (if I recall correctly) sanitary pads and other personal care products. I'm in the habit now of checking labels all the time. There are also lists online of products that are and aren't tested on animals.

I think I'm actually pretty naive about these types of things, because I'm still so shocked to hear about the things people are capable of doing, just for the most common products - I mean, causing animals so much agony just for TEA??? Maybe if it was for the greater good, but to look an animal in the eyes and cause it pain, for....tea. People amaze me.

Will definately check out the list.

Yeah it's absolutely disgusting what people are capable of. It makes me sick. Yeah if you do a search on google you should be able to find a list of products that aren't tested.
