Pre-emptive strike suprose! Will be slow with replies. noprevaricating September 19 2011, 21:59:52 UTC
Archie does not live in CH1 any longer, so he doesn't have to cross the bridge as often as he used to. But while on a walk, he does so--from the end Jack usually hides at.

And since Jack is currently leaning backward on a pony and contemplating the patterns made by the late summer leaves against the sky, he does not notice the young sailor making his bridge entrance.

"Soon enough, Murphy---soon enough the autumn will come, and all our lovely summer be gone."

That allows Archie to spot the disguised pirate. He certainly does not recognize him at first, being too preoccupied with Dawn's pony and wtf mask to even look at the face. It's the voice that belatedly clues him in.

"...Jack?"

".....No?"

Great, the Amazing Disguise was not working so well after all.

Nothing to see here. Just a lone vampire hunter. Crossing the bridge. Supposedly blissfully unaware of the danger.

...that, and he's going to stop to feed the pony. Apples, you see.

"Hey, little guy. What are you doing on the bridge?"

"Ahem. Derek. 'S me."

Jack is a little crestfallen that Derek----LIKE EVERYONE ELSE---just goes straight to the pony without really noticing him. Murphy is stealing his thunder.

....Maybe this costume is TOO good.

Well...isn't the pony supposed to distract your victims, Jack? If it is, you're doing just fine!

Derek will look up at the sound of Jack's voice.

"Hey, man. Nice outfit."

He has no idea what's going on here. No, Really. No Lie. He didn't listen to the journal at all!

"Aye! Thank you, sir! It's meant to be a disguise." He practically mouths the word "disguise." "Meant to keep my identity a secret, rather like the batman. Except not like the batman at all. I HATE the bloody batman. Where are you off to?"

We're beggars and blighters and ne'er-do-well cads,
Drink up m- ..my hearties, yo ho.
Aye but we're loved by our mummies and dads..

[That voice belongs to one Admiral James Norrington, making no attempt to take on the drawling gutteral tone that the song deserves. Demands. He had heard it on the passage over from England, from the proper voice of a little lady, and thus has it lived in his memory since.]

Drink up my hearties, yo ho. What claim have you to this song, Jack Sparrow?

[It is an undignified way of acting. Norrington has attempted a filter. Of sorts.]

What claim have I? Are you listening to yourself speak right now, sailor?! Pirate! 'M a pirate, and one of the Brethren Court to boot, and you will do well to remember it!

...Not that bein' a member of the Court is such a fancy thing, I suppose.

Ah yes. How could I forget the legendary tales of the Brethren Court who, after an exhausting day's running up and down the corridors and a pleasant meal beside a roaring fire, gloriously sought comfort in the coat-tails of their "mummies and dads"

.....Some of us didn't have mummies, I suppose.

[Defensive. Indignant. This is a pirate-y song, damn your eyes, Norrington!]

But our dads loved us! Mostly! Sometimes!

[First a monkey and now a pony. Nami draws to a stop at one end of the marauding bridge and crosses her arms and stares.]

Hello, complete stranger.

[Your disguise works. Except for the part where it doesn't.]

Hello, beautiful, gorgeous, intelligent, and highly sensible woman whom I have never met before. Ever. Do you like piña coladas? And getting caught in the rain?

[Flattery will get you everywhere. ...mostly everywhere. Nami grins and leans against the bridge post.]

Both, actually. Why, are you offering?

Might be. Do you like buying finely-hatted masked gentlemen of your acquaintance said fruity drinks and getting them agreeably drunk?

[Jack, in turn, grins and leans against the railing.]

[Ayumu is just making her way through the village when she ever so coincidentally wanders past that bridge, not at all prompted by the rather distinctive voice warning people away, and pauses to frown at Murphy thoughtfully. That pony would be the pony she saw at the birthday party, would it not?]

[Ah, yes, Murphy---work your pony magic on this woman. Luuuuuuure her onto the bridge with your cute fancy little hooves and your tossing mane and tail and your pert little nose! That is it, Murphy! A few steps more and she shall be mine!]

[Alas that she isn't moving any closer, though; she's never been all that fond of horses, no matter how pert or cute they might be, and is more interested in why this pony is where he is. She will stop to address it, however, as though she isn't aware that anyone else is in the area at all.]

You're Murphy, aren't you? Giles-san told me that I should never try any drinks you made, though I never planned to do so to begin with. I wonder why he said that.

[The pony whinnies and stomps his hoof on the bridge. Come ON lady! Get over here so Jack can maraud you and I get my reward carrot!]
