[Jack has been spending a great deal of time at House Seven, looking after Buffy. There are occasions though when he manages to slip off to Cullen House; he has to keep an eye on the place, after all, and is slowly but surely stocking up on necessary non-perishable supplies for the winter that he and Katie McCoy can share. Firewood. So many things ( Read more... )

we were the reef, feel the peace!, we were the formal nightmare, a fairy crew, before great pain a formal memo comes, and the unlucky rose, sundering seas, everything was beautiful; nothing hurt, some torture doesn't show, save me deepak chopra, we were the whirlpool, snatching your people up, he who falls behind

[...Oh.

You'd think after the month she had, this wouldn't hurt.

But Katara had been looking for Katie since they returned from the draft, and the girl had managed to avoid her while still letting her know that she was all right and now...

...now...

Good.

This was no place for a little girl, no matter how extraordinary. Katie had parents that she missed. She won't have to miss Sigmund or Capell any longer either.

Good.

She shuts the book quietly, too hollow to do much more than curl a hand around her heart. She's not crying, not yet. When will this stop hurting?]

[.. aaaha]

... Gone, huh? I was wondering where she'd went to.

[He didn't know her all that well, but she wasn't even poking around any of the usual victim's journals, either.]

That's too bad; she was a pretty interesting kid. But it's for the best, for someone like her, at her age.

Of any child in this place, Katie McCoy could handle it the best. Handled it better than most of the adults, if you want my opinion on it.

But you're right, of course. It's for the best.

Considering her uncanny ability to fling grown men into mountain tops? I agree with you.

She moved an entire house once, mate. That's a Gospel fact.

[With Nami missing, Brook has been sticking close to the crew lately. It hasn't been so bad - he's been working on making floating lanterns and remembering things about Luceti, and once his journal showed up, he has an easier time of that.

Today, though. Part-way through the morning, Brook had begun to feel restless. Like there was a change in the air; a missing assurance. And while he doesn't completely understand it, it suddenly makes sense once he sees that mural. There's himself, and he thinks he sees Yorki. That little blue whale with a smiling face is undeniably Laboon, when he was a baby.

And Brook isn't sure what to say at first, and all that comes out is:] ...oh.

[Jack catches that one "oh."]

It's not so bad for her, now. She's back in her home place, with her parents I expect.

[He remembers the little girl now. He had read some conversations between them in the journals just last night, even, and remembered her name more quickly than he had most of the others. Did they talk about parents?]

So long as she has someone, I suppose. Even if that has to be her cat. Licorice, I believe the name was.

[She had one - Licorice - that he remembers.]

[And Jack knows Katie AS a cat.]

Silvertoes Kate. Aye. Loved cats. Loves. Loves them.

...she is?

Thanks for letting us know. [Vash is sad that he might not see his tiny friend again, but he's glad she's back with her family.] I'm glad she's safe now.

Jack? [If he's honest, Vash wasn't sure who he thought had left that message. Jack, was not one of them.] Oh, you know. Not too bad.

[But let's not talk about him and his lies.] I didn't know you were so close Katie. [As you must have seen something that told you she was gone rather than kidnapped.] I'm sorry.

Aye, Vash. 'S me. [And he doesn't believe you at all, Vash. Time for Operation: Vash is a Ballerina, apparently. Because that will Make Things Better.]

She were my cabin girl, mate.
