It's just snow

Mar 02, 2012 09:18

About eight inches of snow fell in D.C. last night - it was still falling when I left for the office this morning - pretty, but nothing earth shattering.

Of the 100 or so folk who work in my building - I am the only one who came in.  I cruised in and made fresh tracks in an empty, unplowed parking lot.

This would not happen in Chicago.

I am from Texas. One year when I was in college in Austin, we had an ice storm. The entire city went insane, there were more than 400 accidents on the road, and my university commuter bus could not make it to campus. Pretty funny. I remember my entire high school running outside to celebrate one year when we got a light dusting of flakes. It was a giant party in the parking lot.

Now, hurricanes are old news on the Gulf Coast. My family and I used to stand out in the yard and watch the sky turn soupy green as it approached.

I'm not sure Texas was ready for you :-)

My boss came in at noon. He lives 5 minutes away...

When I went to U. of Dayton we had a few inches of snow so we hunkered down in our hutch and waited patiently for it to melt. Our neighbors from Chicago came over and were mystified.

Snow is not scary. Sliding on the road is not scary.

You just deal with it. :-)

OK driving in general is slightly scary to me...we don't need to add to the degree of difficulty. :P
