Girls

The recent spate of genderfuck stories triggered something of an epiphany for me.

I'm no good at being a girl.

I'm happy to be female, yes, and I can't even imagine wanting to be male, but the distance between "female" and "girl" is huge.

Actually, the difference between "female" and "girl" is me.

I can't dress myself. I finally learned what a ( Read more... )

... It's like looking in a mirror.

I must be the same speices as you, except I have two hair styles; ponytail and loose. I can't braid my own hair to save myself.

Although I do sometimes wear makeup... In the form of a big black line drawn cheek to cheek through my mouth, as my 'happy face' when we go to clubs. For which i wear a pair of black pants and whatever my Metrosexual lover tells me to.

I truly believe there's a girly-girly gene, and GG penetrance gene. My late mom, bless her heart, was a girly-girl extraordinare. She would be made-up and fully coiffed before she stepped out the door. For anything. I was completely the opposite, with my tshirts and Levi's, but I would try occasionally to have a girly-girl moment. Big mistake ( ... )

I wonder if it's not more the case that there's a vast (and very amusing, to judge by your wonderful and painful recounting thereof) gulf between you as girl and you as, well, girly girl. All the stuff you enumerate above is certainly characteristic of the latter species. So, IME, are substantially less desirable characteristics, such as the ability to appear birdbrained at will (sometimes, though not always, accompanied by a genuinely avianesque cranial capacity) and the related driving need to make men feel smart by appearing dumb, either in general or selectively with regard to a specific subject coded male. ("Why, Mr. Man, I don't know NOTHIN' 'bout NO draftin' of NO football playahs!")

In other words: you may be doing fine on the girl front and just be giving the fripperies a miss.

Just a thought.

Gah, I can't be a girl either. I didn't even know slips existed, I thought they were a strange species of nightgown.

And cosmetics? Ha! I can't make lipstick work! I end up all over my cheeks and making me look like I beat my head in with a jar of tomato sauce.

I do, however, like to use power tools, especially screw-drivers. :D

By the way, where's that Peachy Keen avatar from (the comic, I mean)? I recognize it but it's infuriating me that I can't place it.
