Very good job of getting the information in, without overwhelming the reader. That's hard to do. Your pacing, specifically of the reveals, is excellent.

Ooo, I love non-linear storytelling; the flashbacks were great! The story itself was very powerful, and actually made me look up basic information about the early history of silk production.
