Yes, I have not updated in a month. That stupid 'Family Guy' re-run last night -- yeah I know, as opposed to the 'Family Guy' episodes that reach for the non-low-hanging fruit -- made me not wanna look like Peter's 9/11 blog ( Read more... )

things that suck, show, pet pals, beast women, issues, things that don't suck

Yep. I actually thought the article's focus was more on the guerilla housing group than it was on the Mayor. Clearly he plays a huge role in the whole dealio, though. I was surprised to see the reporter cast Rahm as a smartass former businessman and Washington insider in the article - which, you know, is closer to the truth than anything I've seen in the Trib or heard on WBEZ about him.

Most of the people with whom I've spoken don't deify Rahm in the least. Oh, a few have expressed voter's remorse, and a couple of others think he's The Shit because he's like, into Wilco or they met him at the Renegade Craft Festival. Overall, though, he doesn't seem as beloved citywide as his predecessor. Not that a lot of people were doing backflips over the Daley dynasty either - but at least that family gave a rat's ass about Chicago.

I'm not sure the Daleys gave a rat's ass about Chicago either, aside from their friends and donors in Chicago. But yeah, I don't think Rahm is going to establish himself a mayoral dynasty here either. Not that he even wants to, and that's FINE WITH ME.

Temp House Cat Monkey is adorable! When is his contract up? Will you offer him a full-time gig?

Touché. I can't help but wonder a little whether Maggie is doing 360s over the kiddos being kicked to the curb with the school closings, though. Not like her husband's idea of school reform did any good, but still. Won't da former Mare's face be red after the very same schools that he supposedly 'turned around' are closed in the fall. (Ditto for Secretary of Ed Arne Duncan's puss.)

Patrick and I are keeping Monkey on as long as he wants to stay. Of course I can't give him benefits and sick days (meaning his human is still responsible forMonkey's food stipend and vet bills, if any) unless he goes on the payroll full time. I suspect his human's having visa issues but I know Monkey is one of the main reasons he's coming back to the States at all. Monkey seems happy here, for now. He's actually gotten stripier over the past few months because the stress related fur loss is mostly in remission, now that he gets to stay in place for a while.

I admit, I thought that "Peter's 9/11 blog" joke was funny as hell.
