Yesterday I saw a tornado in Westmount park. It was a small one, but not a really tiny one. It was impressively powerful and fast, on a kind of non-destructive scale, and it was like 20 feet high. It was so cool! I've never seen a tornado before in real life.

Is it summer yet?

Awesome! I'm envious. I was living in Edmonton when the big tornado hit in 1986 but I don't remember anything :(

I've seen a few goodly sized dust devils near tall buildings on windy days, but that's not quite the same thing.

I have, however, been in numerous Atlantic squalls, two or three serious Nor'easters and two Hurricanes (Bertha and Ophelia).

actually it's exactly the same thing. a dust devil is like a small tornado, right? that's what i saw, but it was pretty concentrated. never seen one quite like it.

Well, the ones I've seen are basically swirling collections of dust, leaves and a few light pieces of litter that just barely form a cone pattern that moves across an open area and then almost immediatly breaks up on its own.
