 Chapter I
 Chapter II

He runs across the hallway and into the big throne room where the book was holding still and proud by the holy golden stand. He knows exactly what to do and clearly about the consequence of his actions. Surely, when he puts the first footstep into the castle, he knows that if the mission goes wrong, there will be no way out. This is the one-way ticket, HIS one-way ticket. He is the one, the only one that is capable enough to do this. He has to do this for his family, his friends and his whole town. Great responsibility but he is more than happy to take it.

The war has been there all the time, and as days go by, it’s getting worse and worse. More people die, more wives lost their husbands and more children become orphan. The unjust war is draining the people tears and blood. It’s time someone needed to revolt and put an end to everything, to the war, the lost, the shedding tears and the draining blood. But people are afraid; they have been lulled by the peace brought from false promises and fake shells. There were no one approving him at first and even until now, they still call him crazy young man. But still, he knows they are hoping, too, hope that one day, those deceitful words comes true and everything will be alright again.

There is a rumor that nothing is hopeless and that in the central city, where the castle of the kings and queens stands straight, protected days and nights; there is a book that contents the keys to the eternal peace.

So then he left and make journey to the castle where lies the deepest secret of the whole kingdom. Yes, he will be there, take the book out of its net and put an end to every sufferance. He may not be hero but he will, definitely, take any chance to save the ones he loves.

_____________

So far, nothing really dangerous has happened, he easily blended in by pretending to be a deliver boy, bringing potatoes to the castle’s kitchen and then sneaking into the hallway he has been running on. Luck has been smiling on him till then. He quickly runs over to the heavy wooden door and manages to open it without so much noise. Somehow, at this point, he begins to feel nervous, like a child waiting for his present on Christmas day. He knows it’s cross to think like that in this situation but he just can’t help.

And at the moment when he opens the door, he knows for sure that in his entire life, he hasn’t seen anything so beautiful and graceful than the room he is standing in. The wall has its creamy color making every single detail of the chandeliers hanging over his head stand out; the titles are so glossy, glittering under the sun beam coming through the large clear window, they reflecting his image so well that he mistakes him standing on the mirror. Everything inside the room is so glory and yet so cold, like there is no life among it, like nobody has ever set foot in it. And maybe that’s the truth. Maybe the kings is so scared that someone would know the secret and stop him from going further into the nasty war that he has banned people from going anywhere near the place. But then the question rises, if that’s the truth then how the hell that he could possibly go through all the guard, into this room and is going to steal the book? That’s a confusing thing that makes him scared the most, but then the urge to help everyone around has jumped in his thought and demanded him to keep moving on.

The room is pretty much deserted. There is nothing in the room except for the golden stand in the middle proudly holding the book. That is the old book, wrapped by a rotten leather bag. The first thing comes to his mind when he sees the book for the first time is the awe making him stand still for almost a minute before he’s snapped off by the sudden noise coming from, nowhere else but, the book itself. Sure there are a lot of windows in this room but none of them is now open, the transparent glasses are the one allowing the sun beam to come through and light the room. And because all the windows are closed so there is no way that a single wind can possibly travel into the room and make the pages of the book turn like it’s doing now. So there’s just one option left: the book is turning itself, with the help of magic, obviously. A shiver ran through his spine when he realizes the thought.

He gulps nervously and moves closer to the stand. There is something about the book that encourages him to keep moving closer, it’s like the book itself wants that and urges him to do what it wants! That’s a creepy thought and he is sure that everyone will call it crazy but here in this castle, surrounding by magic, there’s nothing impossible anymore.

Shaking like it’s winter, he gives out a hand and reaching for the book, but before he can touch it, a magical wind flows through the room and the books snapped shut, falling out of the stand and jumping right into his open hands with a loud thud. He makes an even louder cry of surprise before realizing completely how stupid his action was. The noises of footsteps coming from the other side of the door is getting louder, the guard must have heard him and now coming after the intruder. Panic draws through him making him numb. What can he do now, he is obviously not any kind of super heroes who can just vanish into the air and appear somewhere else, safe. Gosh, he is so young and he doesn’t want to go to jail, if that the sentence for the intruders, but he believes that attempting to steal the book is the crime that only can be accuse death.

“No, no, no, not yet, not now, oh come on, please every God I know, please get me out of here! Get me anywhere but not here! Please!” - he whispers frantically to himself while rambling his fingers on the wall hoping there will be a secrete passage hidden somewhere there.

Suddenly a window on his left, which he knows leading straight to the gate, opens incredibly. He takes no hesitating and flees, thanking by all the language he knows the mysterious God that helps him.

_____________

“AHHHHHHHHHHH!”

“What? What is that?!?!”

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

“STOP. YELLING!”

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…” - breath - “AHHHHHHHHHHHHH… AKK” - cough, cough…

“There, it will make you shut up for a while.” - the particular woman that is suffering from the yelling comes up with a smack on his head.

“What was that for?” - he hoarsely asks in confusion.

“For you to be quiet, obviously.” - the beautiful lady says calmly.

“Now, tell me, what’s wrong that make you shouting like your dear life is being pulled out of yourself?” - she continues irritatingly.

“Um… well, I …ah… ahhhh… AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

“Come on! Tell me!” - the woman shouts back, beginning to strike another smack at the back of his head.

“NO MOM, GET OUT OF HERE, THERE ARE PEOPLE AFTER ME, WE NEED TO FLEE, THEY WILL KILL YOU…. OH … OH MY GOD … What have I done…?” - he confusedly answers without taking any air, and the last part is kind of a whisper considering the lack-of- air issue.

“What?!?! Who kills who? What have you done?” - the continuing babbling of him finally makes his mother scared and starts to babble, too.

“The soldiers of the king! I went to the castle and take the book out but they nearly got me then the left window magically opened and I ran, now they are after me, mom, we need to get out of here and we need to do it fast!!”

“Hold on, tell me slowly, you went to the castle, oh gosh, you mean castle-castle… then you took the book, and then… OH MY GOD… YOU TOOK THE BOOK?!?!?”- he cannot help but grin proudly at his mother reaction.

“OH… MY SILLY CHILD, YOU ACTUALLY DO THAT…?” - his mother asks unbelievingly.

“Yes mom, kind of…” he trails of trying to think of an excuse “But someone has to do it mom, someone has to take the book and put an end to everything”

“YOU ACTUALLY … Touch …the book?” - he is worrying now as his mother’s orbs nearly fall out from their orbits.

“Yeah, I mean I have to touch it to be able to take it… right?” - he asks uncertainly, not understands why the touching issue sounds so unexpectedly surprising.

“YOU! COME WITH ME!” - his mother grabs his hands and hurriedly leads him out side to the town’s chief’s house.

“Urr, mom… mom… I know we have to run but… I think we shouldn’t hide inside the chief’s house… that’s ‘kinda rude…”

“Who says we are running?”

____________

The chief’s house sure is large but after entering the room in the castle, every house now seems to never can be called large anymore. The impression of the house, when he first enters it, is cozy and warm. The chief is the old man with long white hairs and almost dull yellow eyes. He is sure that when the chief is still young, he was a handsome and strong man with pierce amber eyes, now the eyes are dull but no one can tell that he is not the brave man he used to be.

He is sitting in the dinning room of the house because that is where the chief call safest, his mother has excused herself to go and wait in the kitchen. The chief is now looking straight into his eyes ensuring him with his suddenly twinkle eyes that everything will be all right again. Somehow the old man seems to be very happy.

“Well, hello young man.” - the old man starts the conversation; his voice carries the deep thoughtful manner.

“He…hello… chief.” - he says stumbling on his own tongue.

“Tell me young man, you are Aiba Masaki right?”

“Yea… yeah… but you can call me Masaki like everyone does.” - he bites on his lips preventing him from babbling again.

“Oh, sure, if you insist. I have heard from your mother that you have retrieved the holy book from the king’s castle?”

“Yes, sir…”

“And you sure that you took it by your own hands?” - the old man asks looking straight into his eyes, seeking for the true answer.

“Ah… actually it … umn… ‘kinda flied onto my hands when I tried to touch it… I mean… I know stealing is wrong … but … but someone must stop the king from his mistake!”

“And what makes you, young man, know that this is your responsibility?” - the man says don’t even hide his amusement.

“There’s no need for anyone to tell me, in fact if I don’t do it, sooner or latter someone will, just the matter of time.”

“And the matter of courage, too. Young man, have anyone ever told you that you are so brave?”

“Brave? Oh, me? No, no. The brave one is you, I have heard stories of you, you are the strongest and the bravest of our time!” - he says quickly, trying to cover his embarrassment, it’s really not common that someone compliment him, especially the chief.

“I may be the strongest. But no, I am not the bravest. Just the bravest will be able to touch the book and bring peace to our kingdom. Yes, you are the bravest. Don’t believe me? Well, let me ask you, why isn’t there anyone that comes to the castle and take the book like you do?”

“Because they …” - he says furiously.

“Because they can’t young man, no one could, I have tried but I couldn’t even lay my hands on it, it disappeared the moment I came into the room. The book only shows it’s magic and goes to the person that it’s belonged to, only the bravest, only the chosen one. You ARE the chosen one Masaki, you ARE.”

“M… me? I don’t know…” - he says astonished buy the idea.

“Yes, you. And now, I’m very happy because finally someone will help all of us, taking us out of this living hell.” - the old man says smiling wisely.

“But how can I do this? I mean… I’m just a normal boy…”

“That’s why we need the book right? Now open and read. I’m sure it will help.”

Masaki looks at the book for a long time before reach and open it, his whole feature reflect his determination.

And at that moment the old man knows Aiba is the one that they have been looking for, the man that he wanted to become but could not. The only one helps and brings peace to this kingdom.

__________________

The book is a fascinating creation combine of old magic and myth. Once Aiba takes a look at it, he never can look away. There are stories and myths and prophecies. He reads the prophecy about the five heroes of each kind of creature will eventually sort things out. The prophecy ends with the exclamation of love. Though how love can join the battle he doesn’t know, hopefully he will find it out one day.

And then suddenly a myth catches his eyes, just like how the book attracted his attention in the castle, he decides to read it.

“Our story began in a far, far away kingdom, where magical creatures existed, where power and magic could rule over the world; at a time when people didn’t see friendship and family in each other, they sought for hatred and fight. It was where lands separated by war and when people searched for power to kill each other. It was a sad era and corrupted realm.

That was where our story started, lasted and hopefully ended.

The war was created by the jealousy and cupidity of two kinds of powerful magical creatures: the Vampire and the Werewolf.

The Vampire is not an immortal creature. They live longer than any human can ever possibly do, but they will die, when their time comes. Every creature will have to die one day, but the Vampire cannot accept that, because with them, they are the most powerful kind and they will live for eternity. So then, one day, the king of the vampires captured another powerful creature, almost powerful like themselves, they believe, torture it and got from it a single spell that could only work on one of them. They made a wizard to do the spell bringing them the life that they had always wanted. But because there was just one werewolf that holds one spell fitting for only one vampire that the searching for the right one was hard. But the vampires have their whole life for it. There would be no problem.

The Werewolf is the creature of nature, they are rough and tough. They cannot keep their mind sane to the limit of three years after their maturity. Eventually sanity is not something that they would have without paying a price. One day, the alpha of the pack came back home and found out his son had been captured by the powerful vampire. Days and nights he chased after them. And when they finally stopped, he found that his son had been torture to the edge of lunatic. He then went mad and bit the king of vampires, drank down his blood revenging for his own son. Surprisingly, his madness disappeared. He knew the secret of their sanity after paying a great price.

And from then on, the war began, Vampires versus Werewolf fighting and seeking for dominance. That war has lasted for so long. The two kinds, they are both lost so much but achieve so little. This is nothing but an unjust war, that’s the reason why.

But listen to me, listen to this old rotten book, because the book knows one little secret that easy to find out and yet so difficult.

The war will never end until the day they both know for sure one thing that was set from the very beginning: “They need each other like the light needs the dark”. They have to find out together the last solution. And till then, every war will lost, every blood shed will be worthless. The kingdom will remain in the misery and torment that they had created by themselves.
