Most of what men fear is female in origin or portrayal... The most obvious examples being the likes of Medea aaaaand your wife. Turn them both into men and you have a common usurper. As women they became the worst nightmare of most Greek men... Did you know that, in some cases, women were not allowed to watch Medea as a theatrical production? just in case they got ideas...

Mmmm, you'll notice most of the gods associated with pestilences and other torments are female--which I am aware, does not explain my brother and I, but nevertheless--Nyx, Eris, Nemesis, the Furies... I can go on...

Even now, though not feared as much as revered, perhaps, by their crew, warships are referred to as being female. They name hurricanes after women too... And, of course, there are the monsters~ Scylla, Charybdis, the Sirens, Medusa...
