John never remembers the little things anymore, but in retrospect that doesn't matter, not really.

FIRST! This is so gorgeous that I can hardly stand it. It should be painfully sad, and it does stir feelings of sadness, but not to the point that one might think... and that's the beauty of it. You really do convey the sense that things have simply come full circle for them. Comparing John's forgetfulness and distraction to Sherlock's in their earlier years really takes the edge off of the pain. You know they can live like that, with one partner in that state, and still be happy. I think this is the best thing you've ever written.

Thank you, poppet. You made me blush a bit :) I think that they're going to be alright for the time being too. I like to think of Sherlock raging against the forces of nature on the inside, but he'd be so gentle with his John.
